Day 9 - The Salem Police Station

Wow what a week this has been! So I drove to Salem, OR yesterday, after crossing the 45th Parallel ( which is the exact center between the North Pole and the Equator) Im guessing that Courtenay BC on the Island is around the 47th, or 49th? Well I think I might be heading far to the coast and south to Cali today or tomorrow! Im getting very sick of all these mirror image large cities, with all their big box stores like "Best Buy", "Wal-mart super centers", :Old Navy's" and "Targets" as every city looks the same. I havent really done as much adventuring (nature wise) as I had hoped yet, but moving south means i might get out of this rainy weather and warmer night for camping!

Si I arrived in Salem yesterday and found a garage, as I needed my fuel filter changed on my car, and then did some much needed laundry...and stopped in at the "Lancaster Mall". At about 7:00 I went to watch the movie "9" - pretty good animated movie actually, after which i went back to the parking lot (about 100ft from the mall entrance) where I parked. When I got there my driver door was open about 1 inch... I had  a huge anxiety attack as I knew someone had been in my car. I first looked for my computer (4 days old now...) and it was gone. I had it out using it to check the battery and Wi-Fi signal before the movie so I think someone was waiting for me to leave and break in... so it was under some blankets and my bag... but they found it. They did forget the power cord, and didn't take my camera, or any other belongings... so thats a positive! So my Dad called Visa and they do a warranty on theft and I needed to get a bunch of documents and file a police report (im right beside the police department now) and said they with refund in 2 weeks... so im a little relieved but super stressed about all this running around.

Im going to get the WWOOF site and sign up today, I really want to find something in Cali so I have a place to stay for a while, at this point I dont think I will be doing a 6 month trip, but I will see how California goes! well I havent really taken any pics these last couple days ( Not much worth seeing except stores lol) but AIm sure the coast will be BEAUtiful, so im excited!

  1. Adam, don't get discouraged. Shit happens all the time and thankfully you weren't hurt. There was times during my trip where I felt like I needed to come home but I'm glad I stuck it through to the end so don't give up on your 6 month trip! You'll find your way soon enough. The first part is always a learning curve. Might I suggest staying for a few nights at a hostel? Just to meet some people and perhaps travel around with them for a bit.

    Keep on truckin' :) -Danielle
